(Disclosure: This post is an adaptation from a "tipsy" email I sent to a couple of friends that like 40s and drinking games)
Well, we are definitely on our way to delving into the backpacker lifestyle. We bought ingredients to make a spaghetti dinner at the hostel kitchen (we crack up about the hostel name everytime: Sleepers Sleep Cheaper) in Santa Elena, Costa Rica. After downing a plateful of spaghetti in the common area, 4 New Yorkers walked in and started playing cards. I struck up a conversation and they were playing a$$hole (a drinking card game typically played in one's college years) and asked Amber and I to join in. Amber cleaned the dishes (ROCKSTAR!), but I held up the Swift contingent by joining in. One problemo: the boys didn´t have enough cervesas so I manned up and whipped out the 40oz of Pilsen beer I bought at the grocery store which was what I would drink during the game. I (of course as the rules dictate) started as a$$hole, but worked my way up to el presidente. I could help but feel transported back into 'ol college days of drinking games. Two of the guys were Jets fans and were excited that the Jets are plaing San Diego this coming weekend (congrats K-Bro). My new friends were thoroughly impressed with my 40oz and had to live by some new game rules I set as el presidente (e.g. thumb rule). I somehow was able to wake up at 6:30am to go hiking in a cloud forest (which was AWESOME, post with pics coming soon).
A quick note to say that all is well: Costa Rica is a blast, the mountainous regions (Arenal region and Montevedra) we have been in have had poor weather so we are looking forward to heading to the beach tomorrow (Manuel Antonio).
We're working to get some pictures up and more timely posts put together.
